This is an ancient Scandinavian Viking openwork stud, dating to the 10th century A.D. The stud is set with blue enamel, retains all three of the original rivets. Such a stud may have mounted to a book cover, belt or scabbard harness. It is a nice design with openwork biting beasts encircling a globe. Similar designs can be found on brooches from this period.
