This is an ancient Roman bronze intaglio ring, dating to the 3rd century A.D. The ring is set with the original carnelian intaglio, depicting a pair of clasped hands. The bronze ring is of good hoard metal, being part of a cache of rings from a jeweller (discovered in Europe). A similar jewellers hoard was discovered in Senttisham in Norfolk. The gems appear to be related and the working stock of a jeweller. This ring is in excellent condition and has a nice chocolate brown patina. A wonderful ring for the collector.
